Anyone can enjoy the relaxing activity of organic gardening. Yet for someone who is just a novice, gardening can be a really intimidating thing to think about. How can the beginning organic gardener get a handle on how to start out? They should read this article, obviously!
If you want to spend more quality time outdoors with your children, why not allowing them to help you with your gardening? For kids, there are few things as fun as picking fruit fresh from the garden. Your children will be much more interesting in helping out if they know they’ll get to enjoy some tasty strawberries.
Plants growing in your home need a constant temperature of no less than 65 degrees. In order to encourage proper growth, they will need that warmth. If you want to save money on gas bills in the winter, you can provide local heating for the plants with a heat lamp instead.
Organic indoor plants may need additional light sources to make up for the light they miss out on by being indoors. This needs to be considered. If your dwelling does not enjoy a great deal of natural sunlight, it makes sense to grow only those varieties meant to thrive in such environments. If you still are unable to get enough light to your plants, consider purchasing grow-lights.
Once your seeds start sprouting, they do not need as much warmth as they needed before. Move your plants away from the heat as they grow. Also, remove plastic coverings from the tops of your growing containers to keep them from becoming too warm or humid. To know when it is time for this, keep a careful eye on your seeds.
You can stop mud from being tracked into your house by covering your dirty gardening shoes with plastic bags. Having these available lets you keep your flow in movement, and helps you return to your gardening fast so you can finish up your day.
Be aware of spacing considerations when you are first planting your organic garden. As plants grow and spread out, you will not always know how much space will be required. Plants need room for physical growth and for the air to circulate within the soil. Try to plan your garden and place sufficient distance in between your seedlings.
Use an old laundry basket to collect your produce. Most laundry baskets are designed with a multitude of holes. This makes them a perfect strainer for washing your vegetables. When you put your produce in a basket, you can then rinse it off and let it strain any excess water through the laundry basket holes.
You can kill weeds naturally. Put down old newspapers in several layers for controlling weeds. Weeds can’t grow without sunlight. When you put newspaper on top of weeds they will suffocate because they are not getting enough light. Newsprint also breaks down well, incorporating itself into the compost. You can then add a mulch layer right on top so that it looks more attractive.
Now you should be able to see why organic gardening can be such an enjoyable activity to participate in. Working in your garden will bring you great relaxation while you have a fun experience. Use these tips to get your organic garden up and running in no time.
